Notice posted - April 07 2017
The City Council is about to start work on dividing the grass area of Alexandra Park in half. One half for grass tennis courts; the other half open for public park use.
We will have six grass courts, which will be fenced off with coded access, as with the hard courts.
Norham Gardens has offered to pay for a table and benches next to the courts for club and public use. There will also be bike racks close to both hard and grass courts.
The main works to the grass courts should be completed by first week of May after which we should be able to start playing.
The open area will have a low fence and hedge between it and the car park, but set in a bit to give more room in the driveway.
Works to fences, benches, etc should be completed by the end of May. The hedge will be planted in the autumn.
This is the culmination of several years of consultation, during which Norham Gardens has worked hard to ensure the survival of grass tennis courts in the park. Committee members have had regular meetings with Council officers - who have been very helpful - to arrive at a solution for that works for everyone.
