Memorable charity tennis tournament

Our thanks to everyone who organized and supported our tennis fun day, which raised £400 for tennis promotion among young people in Malawi. Joseph Clayton, a former Norham Gardens junior, managed over 40 enthusiastic players with unflappable style. There were round robin tournaments for adults and juniors, as well a quiz on Malawi, and of course lots of tea and cakes, most of which seemed to be consumed by the juniors.

Joseph has written:

“Thank you to everyone who came down to the fundraising tournament on Sunday - the turnout was brilliant and we managed to raise a total of over £450! Thank you also to those who couldn’t attend but contributed anyway - really kind of you. The money will be spent on bicycles for the coaches at Play Malawi, so they have a sustainable and flexible means of getting around town to run coaching and education sessions. Many of the schools they work with are not on bus routes, which means walks of up to 15km in a day, so the bicycles will make a big difference to the organisation. Their coordinator wants me to pass this message on to you:

On behalf of Play Malawi staff and on behalf of the children we all seek to serve, I would like to express our thankfulness to you Joseph and everyone at Norham Gardens Lawn Tennis Club that took part in the fundraising event for Play Malawi.

The support has been received with excitement and will help to fill the gap we have in our work of serving children in schools.

God bless you all!

With thanks,
Gracian Mkandawire
