The Norham Gardens Annual General Meeting was held on 25 November at Summertown Church Hall.
Club Chair Peter Wing Young reported on the year’s activities, noting that we had brought a true Tennis legend, Nick Bollettieri, to Oxford, and he thanked all the committee members for making this and the rest of the year so successful.
Both income and expenses were up, and we have maintained a sound financial position so can invest in maintaining and improving the courts. The club officers have worked with the City Council and local residents on plans for Alexandra Park. We started primary school coaching sessions for pupils at St Aloysius St Barnabas schools (with new coach Matej). Other innovations were Norham sweatshirts, only two left!
Membership has remained steady with 142, plus 35 juniors who were enrolled through participation in the Bollettieri coaching day. It was agreed that next year’s membership rates would be largely unchanged, though there would be a 10 per cent discount for early renewal, so everyone should be able to rejoin more cheaply.
We maintained teams in the Babolat winter and summer leagues, with the men’s A team finishing third in the premier division in the summer.
This year we welcome two new committee members, Lee Brock and Suzy Leigh.
Awards were presented for the club competitions:
Fiona Macdonald, runner up Virginia Tite.
Luca Signorini, runner up Jie Ma
Gerda Lysley and Luca Signorini, runners up Anna Ma and Jie Ma
